1940 yılında South Wales ‘ de doğdu ve dedesinin ismini aldı. Bir vaizin oğlu olan White, Liverpool Üniversitesi‘nden mezun olmadan önceki çocukluk yıllarını Cheshire, Glasgow ve Hertfordshire ‘da geçirdi.
Profesyonel hayatının ilk üç yılı ; “ steel band” baş aranjörlüğü yaptığı West Indies Üniversitesi‘nde (Trinidad ), 1972 yılında uzaklaştırıldığı Malawi Üniversitesi‘nde, dedektiflik romanı Inspector Tucker & the Leopard Men ‘i yazdığı Sierra Leone Üniversitesi ‘nde ; eğitim verdiği ve ilk kitabı V.S. Naipaul: a Critical Introduction ‘ın çıktığı Zambia Üniversitesi’nde geçti.
Sonraki üç yılı ise York Üniversitesi‘nde ,1980 yılında katılıp 1984 yılında başkanı olduğu Centre for Southern African Studies ‘ de geçti. Burada Leroy Vail’in de çeşitli katkılarıyla kendisinin Afrika deneyimlerini temel alan kitapları ; Two Mozambican Histories, The History of a Village in Malawi, A Study of Southern Africa Praise Poetry, An Anthology of African Oral Poetry (Jack Mapanje işbirliği ile ) ve kendi şiirlerinden oluşan üç koleksiyonu yazdı.
1994 yılından beri Portekizde yaşamakta ve Aberta Üniversitesi (Açık Üniversite ) ’nde eğitim vermektedir. Camões The Lusiads ‘ın ödüllü çevirisini ve Where the Angolans are Playing Football , Selected , New Poems ve Arab Work kitaplarını içeren dört farklı şiir koleksiyonunu burada yayımlamıştır.
The Collected Lyrics of Luis de Camoes 2008 yılında Princeton University Press tarafından basılmıştır. Bir başka şiir koleksiyonu olan Singing Bass 2009 yılında ve romanı Livingstone’s Funeral 2010 yılında çıkacaktır.

Halen İstanbul Yeditepe Üniversitesi’nde İngilizce ve Drama Profesörü olarak eğitim vermekte.
İlk şiir kitabı Dön Güvercin Dön, 1986 yılında Behçet Necatigil Ödülü’nü almaya hak kazandı. Sonraki şiir çalışmaları ; Doğal Tarih (1989), Sevda Yaratan (1994), ve Ne Güzel Yolculuktu Aklımdan Çıkmaz (2001) isimli üç seride toplandı. Toplanan şiirleri 2007 yılında Bana Düşlerini Anlat ismi ile Yapı Kredi Yayınları tarafından yayımlandı.
1986 yılında şiirlerinden seçmeler fransızcaya tercüme edilerek L’hiver Est Fini ismi altında Les cahiers de Royaumont (Creaphis) serisinde Fransa’da yayımlandı.
Yine şiirlerinden seçmeler 2001 yılında kendisi ve Michael Hulse tarafından tercüme edilerek Where Are You, Susie Petchek? ismi ile Arc Publications tarafından İngiltere’de yayımlandı.
İngiliz, Amerikan ve Yunan şiirlerini kapsamlı olarak tercüme etti ve şiir çevirileri antolojileri düzenledi. Ayrıca Fernando Pessoa ve Carlos Drummond de Andrade şiirlerinin türkçe tercümelerini yaptı. İrlandalı ve İngiliz tiyatro yazarlarının (Synge , O’Casey, Whiting ve Wesker ) önemli çalışmalarını oyunlarının çevirileri kadar iyi tercüme etti ve yayımladı.

Ilídio J.B. Vasco was born on March, 5 of 1982, in Lisbon
He started by studying Economics, but graduated in Language and Literature in 2005. On the next year he finished his Post-Degree on text Edition in the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas. On the same year he starts working with Guerra & Paz Editors where, until today, he works as editing designer. He works with other publishers such as Sombra do Amor – Edições or LIDEL. He’s responsible for all the graphic line of the Cooperativa Literária and the magazine Callema, where he’s, also, editor.

Cümle Frase
Cümle Frase, Ankara ve İzmir olmak üzere Türkiye'nin iki şehrinde şu an yaratılan Aylık Portekiz Dili Şiir Sayfasının adıdır.
Amaç: En yeni ve orijinal Portekizce şiirleri Ankara ve İzmir sokaklarında seslendirmek ve şiiri, kafelere, sokaklara, barlara, kısacası her yere taşımaktır.
Her ay bir şairin şiirlerinin Türkçe çevirileri sayfamızda yer alacak ve dolayısıyla okuyucunun elinin altında bulunacak.
Hedef: 3 yıl içerisinde sayfamızda biriken tüm şiirleri bir kitapta birleştirip Türkiye'nin ilk yeni Portekizce şiir antolojisini yaratmak.
Şimdilik 2009 yılı için evet diyen bazı şairler: Catarina Nunes de Almeida, Hugo Milhanas Machado, Valter Hugo Mãe, Rui Alberto, M. Tiago Paixão, José Luis Peixoto, José Rui Teixeira.

Landeg White
was born in South Wales in 1940, and named for his maternal grandfather. A preacher’s son, he spent his childhood in Cheshire, Glasgow and Hertfordshire before graduating from Liverpool University.
The first third of his professional life was played out in the University of the West Indies, Trinidad, where he was chief arranger for a steel band; in the University of Malawi, from where he was deported in 1972; in the University of Sierra Leone, where he wrote the detective novel Inspector Tucker & the Leopard men, and in the University of Zambia, where he was teaching when his first book V.S. Naipaul: a Critical Introduction, appeared.
The second third was played out at the University of York where he joined the Centre for Southern African Studies in 1980, becoming Director in 1984. Here, partly in collaboration with Leroy Vail, he wrote the books based on his African experiences – two Mozambican histories, the history of a village in Malawi, a study of southern Africa praise poetry, an anthology of African oral poetry (co-authored with Jack Mapanje) and three collections of his own poetry.
Since 1994, he has lived in Portugal where he teaches at the Universidade Aberta (Open University). Here, he has published a prize-winning translation of Camões The Lusiads, and four further collections of poetry, including Where the Angolans are Playing Football: Selected and New Poems and Arab Work.
The Collected Lyrics of Luis de Camoes was published by Princeton University Press in 2008. Singing Bass, a further collection of poems, will appear in 2009, and Livingstone’s Funeral, a novel, in 2010.

He is currently Professor of English and Drama at the Yeditepe University in Istanbul.
His first book of poems Dön Güvercin Dön (Return Dove, Return) was awarded the Behçet Necatigil Prize in 1986. His later poetry were collected in three other valumes Doğal Tarih (1989), Sevda Yaratan (1994), and Ne Güzel Yolculuktu Aklımdan Çıkmaz (2001). His collected poems were published in 2007 by Yapı Kredi Publications under the title Bana Düşlerini Anlat.
In 1996, a selection from his poems was translated into French and published in France in the series Les cahiers de Royaumont by Creaphis under the title L’hiver est fini.
In 2001 another selection of his poems were translated by him and by Michael Hulse and published in England by Arc Publications under the title Where Are You, Susie Petchek?

Portekiz siiri
Portekiz siiri canli ve heyecan vericidir. Kisa ve öz içerikli bu sayfanin amaci da Türk toplumunun "merakli, ilgili ve ulasilabilir" okuyucusuna bunu göstermektir.
Bu sayfada Portekiz siirinin kabul görülme sürecindeki bazi yeni isimlerini yayimlayacagiz.
Çünkü siir üretimsel bir süreçtir. Kelimenin anlamsal bütünlügünün hareketidir. Jacques Derrida'nin dedigi gibi; sessiz bir kur gibidir, yaralari açmak için bekleyen.

Portuguese poetry is alive and well! The goal of this very brief and light page is to show her – the poetry – to the Turkish public, not to all, just to those who are interested, to the curious, to those who are available, well, to the readers!
On this page we will publish some of the newest names on Portuguese language poetry, names on affirmation process.

Cümle Frase is the name of the Portuguese Language Poetry Monthly Page created NOW, in Ankara and Izmir, Turkey.
The goal: give voice to the new, "the newest", poetry in portuguese language on the streets of Ankara and Izmir - bring poetry to the the street, cafes, bars, everywhere.
Each month one poet... and the poems and their translation to turkish, on the page, on the reader's hand.
The idea:in 3 years time put together all the "pages" e transform them into a book - the first antology of the new portuguese poetry in Turkey.
For now the YES of some poets for 2009: Catarina Nunes de Almeida, Hugo Milhanas Machado, Valter Hugo Mãe, Rui Alberto, M. Tiago Paixão, José Luis Peixoto, José Rui Teixeira
